To be honest I've been feeling like a bit of an 'empty shell person' these past couple days (to pilfer the phrase from Under The Tuscan Sun). I think it was a culmination of physical stress, my aforementioned lack of sleep, and an endless list of things to do, which had my mind stretched too too thin. And on top of all that, the ways of the world and, to some degree, the often seemingly immutable nature of man, had been having a not-so-good effect on me as of late. This whole "in the world, but not of the world" business feels damn near impossible sometimes. So today I kind of just shut down -- my body was going through the motions, but my mind was nowhere... but God never fails to be there always. He said to me through his apostle Paul, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery... You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 'A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.' I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be... You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.'
