has it really been ten years since "She's All That"??

New Years has come and gone and in a couple days I'm back on my next hospital rotation. Strangely enough this two week break really felt like two weeks, or even longer. I wanted to do nothing -- shelve my ever-looming "to-do" list -- and that's exactly what I did! And it was awesome. We sat around, ate non-stop, watched movies, did some quality shopping, and then sat around some more. And having Kirsty down was the perfect icing on the cake... I felt whole. Oh, and it helped that I got sick. LoL Sore throat, headaches, myalgia, fatigue, nausea, cough, the whole shebang. So unfortunately the running got shelved as well, but I figure I've got the month of January to make up for it. Feeling much better, on New Years day Dad and I went on an epic 26km tramp (= hike). Quality father-daughter time and a bit of symbolism to ring in the new year: conquering the seemingly insurmountable, reaching the top, keeping at it, not giving up. The weather was nice for once (27degrees!) and we left our house on foot at half seven, reached the top of Mount Cargill (~630meters above sea level) by eleven then back down again by half twelve. My legs were jello by the time we were back in town. I spent the rest of the day in pain on the couch starting and finishing an incredible book, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I haven't been that captivated by a novel since... man, I can't even remember! Not that I've done much leisure reading the past few years but if anything the mere fact that I finished a book is evidence enough. Captivating... touching... inspiring... It had me from the very first pages to the very last. I went to pick up a friend and his fiance from the airport this morning and he asked me what I got up to during the break. All I could honestly say was, "Nothing" with a great big smile on my face. On a more reflective note, given some of the events of late and general changes this past year, I have had a few things on my mind during the break, but I think I'll save that for another day. For now... movies, sleep, being sick, 26ks, and one of the best novels I've ever read... I feel sufficiently refreshed and ready to tackle this new year ahead of me. Fin.
